Enabling the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
 in your Web browser

       
 

Java is a simple but powerful programming language that enables many of the clever little widgets and gadgets we take for granted on our websites, to work. It's an add-on to your browser that helps to display things like the coloured interactive buttons we use on this website.

This article applies to:

  • Browser(s):
    Internet Explorer 5.5, Internet Explorer 6.x,

SYMPTOMS

Applets and Buttons don't run properly.



CAUSE
Java Runtime Environment is not enabled in the web browser.
If the JRE is already installed but applets do not work, you may need to enable the
JRE through your web browser.

 

IF YOU DON'T HAVE JAVA, CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD IT FROM THE SUN WEBSITE

SOLUTION

Please follow these instructions to enable the Sun JRE though your Web browser:


Internet Explorer 4.x and Up

  1. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
  2. Select the Advanced Tab, and scroll down to "Java (Sun)"
  3. Check the box next to the "Use Java 2" version
  4. Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
  5. Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
  6. Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
  7. Click OK to save your preferences and restart the browser.
  8. Now go back test the JAVA widgets to make sure they now work

 

 

 

 

 

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Start Mozilla Firefox browser or restart it if it is already running.
  2. Select Tools > Options.
  3. Dialog box: Options
  4. Click Content and Select Enable Javascript & Java  
  5. Restart the browser or reload the page to activate JAVA
